Szenwic. The story of a family – an exhibition by the Nobiscum Foundation starts 2 September

The exhibition entitled “Szenwic. The story of a family” prepared by the Nobiscum Foundation will present the history of members of a Jewish family associated with Płock since the beginning of the 19th century. The board exhibition will consist of family photographs and documents, among others, from the collections of the State Archives in Łódź and the State Archives in Płock, which is a partner of the project. The exhibition was created thanks to the cooperation and commitment of family members who still live in in Poland and Italy and thanks to funding from the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland. The event is included in the program of the European Days of Jewish Culture 2023 held under the name “Memory”.

We would like to invite you to the opening of the exhibition and the meeting with the descendants of the Szenwic family on September 2 at 11.00 a.m. at the Darmstadt House at 8 Old Market Square in Płock.

The exhibition will be available at the Darmstadt House on September 2-3, 2023. From September 4 – October 31, 2023, we invite you to see it in the P Gallery at the Płock City Hall at 1 Old Market Square.

In addition, on Sunday, September 3, we invite you to our authors’ day at the exhibition – everyone who visits us at the Darmstadt House between 11.00 a.m. – 4 p.m. can meet us and talk about the Szenwic family and our project.

Just after the weekend of its opening, the exhibition will also be available online on JewishPlock.eu, in Polish and English.

We’ve joined the Network of the Forum for Dialogue!

🇬🇧 Forum for Dialogue – the oldest Polish non-governmental organization aiming to improve Polish-Jewish relations, for 25 years has been gathering people for whom Jewish history and heritage in Poland are of great importance. This year we had the honor and pleasure to participate in the 9th National Conference of Leaders of Dialogue. We would like to thank very much for inviting us to the Network of the Forum for Dialogue (until recently the Leaders of Dialogue programme), which already includes over 140 people – activists, who for many years in their towns, against the odds, with or without the support of the local community, care about the memory of their Jewish neighbours!

Film project “The last path of their lives. People of Płock in the Uprising in Treblinka”.

🇬🇧 2023 marks the 80th anniversary of the uprising of the prisoners of the German Nazi death camp Treblinka II. In connection with this anniversary and thanks to the financial support of the City of Płock, the Nobiscum Foundation will produce a film project entitled “The last path of their lives. People of Płock in the Uprising in Treblinka”.

The aim of our production will be to present the Jewish people from Płock who participated in the uprising: Marian Platkiewicz, Motel Perelgryc, Rudek Lubraniecki and Chaskiel Rozenberg. ✡️

The guests of our film will be, among others, representatives of the Memory of Treblinka Foundation, which collects and promotes knowledge about the camp, gathers accounts of witnesses and survivors, and publishes the names and surnames of people who were murdered in Treblinka. During a recent meeting with us, Ewa Teleżyńska-Sawicka and Paweł Sawicki said:

“According to Jewish tradition, a man dies three times: the first time – when he dies physically, the second time – at the funeral. The third death occurs when no one from the living speaks his name anymore…”
